Automatic 1st gear selection shift mod

Remove ashtray to get to front mounting screw.

There are screws in the bottom of the cd area.

Remove clip holding shifter knob, then pull knob straight up off the shifter.

Oh yeah, see the coin holder?

Pull up on the coin holder to find the hidden screws.

As the center consol is pulled up over the shifter, locate and unplug the connector at the front underneath the ashtray.

Gently lay the console on the passenger floor. With the key turned to "on", you can pull the shifter back to see where the shifter hits this little square "bump".

I laid paper towel in the area, used a hack saw blade, and removed the offending "bump".

Cleaned up, put everything back... now can pull the shifter into "1st".

Note: The 97 TA had the number "1" on the selector. I understand some cars do not. I'm not exactly sure why this is.
